Early Years & Foundation Stage

F2 Reception

The children begin the day with a short carpet time session before engaging in a range of child initiated activities and adult directed learning.

Each morning we share milk and fruit together as a whole class to develop communication and language skills, and also promote personal, social and emotional development.

We teach phonics using the Ruth Miskin ‘Read, Write Inc Programme’ daily.  This is a systematic approach to teach all of the common sounds in the English language, helping your child to recognise the sounds and then to ‘sound-blend’ them into words for reading.  This helps children to become fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.

Maths is also taught daily following the Maths Mastery approach.  It is based on all children learning and developing maths skills through practical applications and encouraging verbal reasoning.

This term we are super excited to be learning all about space! We are going to be so busy making rockets, planning how we can get into space and writing lists of what to pack in our suitcases!

We will be reading a range of non-fiction books and using these books to write our own facts about space.

Some of the fantastic books that we will be reading to inspire our learning are as follows:

Aliens love underpants by Claire Freedman & Ben Cort

Whatever Next by Jill Murphy

Non Fiction Books Focus

The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers

Keep track on ClassDojo to find out about weekly challenges and learning which we update regularly and use for messaging and sharing your child’s learning journey.

Please see your class teacher if you have any ClassDojo queries.
