F2 Daily Routines

Daily Routines:

In F2, we build the children’s learning experiences around a topic. The topics are often based on popular children’s stories or the interests of the children. F2 children continue to learn through play-based activities and experiences, both inside and outside the classroom, with an additional emphasis on phonics, reading and writing.

Each week, children take part in 5 “Read, Write, Inc.” sessions. The children learn new letter sounds daily and use these to blend and segment words in order to closely match the needs of each child. The two classes are grouped into smaller groups. By the end of F2, most children are able to recognise at least 24 letter sounds and write words phonetically in simple sentences.

Children take part in a daily maths session, where the children are given the skills to build on, and learn mathematical concepts.

Our  timetable  includes a weekly PE session, as well as ICT.

Reading books are changed weekly and parents are encouraged to read with their child on a daily basis.

What our day looks like:

  • Register and carpet time
  • Indoor and outdoor child initiated learning and an adult led activities
  • Phonics/Puzzle sessions
  • ICT/PE once a week
  • Story-time/singing
