Pupil Residentials

At Robert Shaw we strive to develop the ‘whole’ child. Our residentials are the perfect way for children simply be themselves with the following benefits:

  1. Personal Growth & Independence

For many children, a residential trip is their first time sleeping away from home. This fosters a massive leap in self-reliance.

  • Life Skills: Pupils manage their own luggage, keep track of their clothes, and make their own beds.
  • Resilience: Overcoming “home-sickness” or pushing through a scary high-ropes course builds a “can-do” attitude that translates back to the classroom.
  • Decision Making: Without a parent to choose their lunch or tell them when to put a coat on, our pupils learn to think for themselves.
  1. Strengthening Relationships
  • Peer Bonding: Shared challenges like sharing a dorm create tighter friendships
  • Teacher-Pupil Rapport: Seeing a teacher fall off a paddleboard or join in a campfire song leads to mutual respect back at school.
  1. Experiential Learning
  • Physical Education: Our residentials offer “adventurous activities” like kayaking and climbing.
  • Nature Connection: Constant access to the outdoors is proven to reduce stress and anxiety in our pupils
  • Inclusivity: Pupils who struggle academically shine in practical, outdoor environments, giving their self-esteem a boost.
