Good attendance and punctuality to school is vital for pupils to be able to get the most out of teaching and learning time. We consider good attendance to be 96% or above. The school day begins at 8.45am, and we expect all pupils to be in school on time.
If your child is to be absent from school, it is important that the school is notified as soon as possible. This can be through a written note, through conversation with the class teacher or office staff. If your child is ill, please contact the school on the first morning of absence. If no contact is made, the school office will send a text message requesting a reason for absence.
Government legislation (1991) obliges schools to record all absences in the school’s register, and the Education Welfare Officer may check on repeated unexplained absences.
Absence from school for any reason, other than medical or special circumstances, will not be authorised by the school. The school is obliged to report unauthorised absences to the Local Authority, and if the absences are not deemed acceptable, may impose fines and withdraw school places. Contact the Headteacher if you need clarification on this.
