Good attendance and punctuality to school is vital for pupils to be able to get the most out of teaching and learning time. We consider good attendance to be 96% or above.
Due to COVID-19, we operate a staggered school day. For children in Year 1, 2 and 4 the school day begins at 8.45am and ends at 3.00pm. For children in F2, Year 3, 5 and 6 the school day begins at 9.00am and ends at 3.15pm. Nursery (F1) morning session begins at 8.30am to 11.30am; Nursery afternoon session begins at 12.30pm and ends at 3.30pm.
If your child is to be absent from school, it is important that the school is notified as soon as possible. All absences should be reported to our school office by 8.45am. If your child is ill, please contact the school on the first morning of absence. If no contact is made, the school office will send a text message requesting a reason for absence.
Government legislation (1991) obliges schools to record all absences in the school’s register, and the Education Welfare Officer may check on repeated unexplained absences.
Absence from school for any reason, other than medical or special circumstances, will not be authorised by the school. The school is obliged to report unauthorised absences to the Local Authority, and if the absences are not deemed acceptable, may impose fines and withdraw school places. Contact the Headteacher if you need clarification on this.
