If a child is to be absent from school, it is important that the school is notified, this can be formally through written note or informally through conversation with the class teacher or office staff. If a child is ill, please contact the school on the first morning of absence. If no contact is made, the school office will send a text message requesting a reason for absence.
Government legislation (1991) obliges schools to record all absences and the Education Welfare Officer may check on repeated unexplained absences.
Absence from school for any reason other than medical or special circumstances will not be sanctioned by the school. The school is obliged to report unauthorised absences to the local Authority, and if the absences are not deemed acceptable, may impose fines and withdraw school places. Contact the HeadTeacher if you need clarification on this.
