Vision
Our curriculum aims for children to:
- Acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of the main religions represented in the United Kingdom. (Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.).
- Develop an understanding of the influence beliefs, values and traditions have on individuals and communities.
- Provide pupils with the opportunities for spiritual, moral social and cultural development.
- Encourage respect and sensitivity towards all beliefs and traditions, particularly those represented in their own community.
- Develop the ability to explore our shared human experience and the question of meaning and purpose, which arises from this.
Our RE curriculum aims to develop deep thinkers who are open-minded about religion and worldviews. We aim to ensure that our curriculum is relevant to pupils, reflecting and preparing them for life in modern Britain. Throughout their time at Robert Shaw, children will secure a deep understanding of concepts in order to be able to make connections, ask and respond to challenging questions, learn to respect and appreciate worldviews that are different to their own and consider their personal preconceptions and responses to other people’s ideas about faith.
Children will build their conceptual knowledge through studying religions locally, nationally and globally, enabling them to make links, develop skills and build on their understanding. By revisiting key ‘big questions’ and building on prior knowledge, pupils will learn about religion and consider the impact of worldviews on society and have opportunities to consider their personal responses through reflection. Our curriculum enables pupils to meet the government guidance, which states that RE must reflect that ‘the religious traditions in Great Britain are, in the main, Christian while taking account of the teaching and practices of the
other principal religions represented in Great Britain’.
Our curriculum has been designed to fulfill the aims of the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus.
